Carbon Nanotube Properties
Description
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are allotropes of carbon with a cylindrical nanostructure. Strong sp2 bonds, providing extraordinary strength, and high thermal conductivity are among their defining properties. CNTs also exhibit unique electronic properties, they can be metallic or semiconducting depending on their chirality. Their small diameter relative to their length yields impressive aspect ratios, resulting in high surface area making them attractive for applications in nanotechnology, electronics, optics, and other fields of materials science.
SWCNTs: single-walled carbon nanotubes; DWCNTs: double-walled carbon nanotubes, with two concentrically aligned nanotube walls; MWCNTs: multiple graphene layers, each separated by a distance akin to the interlayer spacing in graphite.
