Cold High-Pressure Homogenization Process in Lipid Nanoparticle Production
Description
Cold high-pressure homogenization entails cooling and grinding of the mixture of drug and molten lipids (steps 1-3). Liquid nitrogen or dry ice may be used to bring about the cooling of the mixture (step 3). The lipid microparticles obtained by grinding in a ball mill (step 4) are dispersed in a cold aqueous solution of the surfactant (step 5). The resulting presuspension is passed through a high-pressure homogenizer, leading to the formation of nanosized lipid particles (step 6).
